Itinerary

Upon arrival in Kathmandu, you'll be greeted and transferred to your hotel where you can relax and prepare for your adventure ahead.

Take the day to explore the vibrant city of Kathmandu, visiting its historic sites, bustling markets, and cultural landmarks, including UNESCO World Heritage Sites like Swayambhunath and Pashupatinath.

Catch a scenic flight to Tumlingtar, followed by a picturesque drive to Chichila, where your trek begins. Enjoy stunning views of the surrounding landscapes as you settle into the rhythm of trekking.

Embark on your first day of trekking through lush forests and terraced farmland, gradually ascending to the picturesque village of Num, where you'll spend the night amidst the tranquil surroundings.

Traverse through diverse landscapes, crossing the Arun River and ascending to Seduwa, a charming village nestled amidst verdant hillsides. Immerse yourself in the local culture and hospitality.

Continue your journey, passing through quaint villages and lush forests, until you reach Tashigaon, a picturesque settlement surrounded by towering peaks. Enjoy panoramic views of the Himalayas.

Ascend higher into the mountains, trekking through rugged terrain and rhododendron forests to reach Khongma Danda, where you'll be rewarded with breathtaking vistas of the surrounding landscapes.

Take a well-deserved rest day in Khongma Danda to acclimatize to the altitude and soak in the stunning mountain scenery. Explore the area or simply relax and rejuvenate.

Embark on a challenging trek, crossing the high mountain pass of Shipton La and descending to Dobate, a serene alpine hamlet surrounded by majestic peaks. Experience the thrill of high-altitude trekking.

Follow the meandering course of the Barun River upstream, passing through pristine wilderness and verdant valleys to reach Yangle Kharka, a scenic campsite nestled amidst the rugged landscape.

When is the best season for the Makalu Base Camp trek?

The spring (March-May) and fall (September-November) trekking seasons offer the best weather and trail conditions.

What permits are required for the trek?

Trekkers need a Makalu Barun National Park Conservation Area permit and special trekking permit for the restricted area

How difficult is the trek?

The Makalu Base Camp trek is challenging and best suited for experienced mountain trekkers. The alternative route towards Everest requires mountaineering experience.
